Special Announcement:

Jerry Goodson and Ralph Harris acquired the records of P.H. Patterson, RPLS 2517, some time ago and Jerry would like to give them to someone (another surveyor preferably) rather that throw them in the trash. Mr. Patterson performed many of the surveys in the Cedar Park and Leander areas.

Mr. Goodson can be contacted at 512-556-6885.

President's Corner:

Welcome to the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, Chapter 13 Newsletter. I am honored and proud that you selected me and the other candidates to represent our Chapter for the 2007-2008 term. I wanted to take a moment and let the general membership know my goals for this coming year.
The first goal I have is to encourage more membership participation. I will ask you, the general membership, for suggestions and input regarding the direction you would like to see the Chapter head. Once I get a feel for the direction, I will allocate the recourses necessary to see the ideas to fruition. One idea I had is to organize Chapter events other than our regular monthly meetings, picnic, joint meetings, and Christmas gathering. I was thinking on the lines of a hunting, fishing, and/or sporting event. I would welcome any suggestions that anyone would have in this regard.
The second goal I have is to encourage education and training for Chapter members. I had the opportunity to participate in the instruction of the SIT/RPLS Forum at this year's Convention. The forum was created to answer questions that SITs and RPLS candidates had in preparation for their examination. I took from the experience the understanding of a need to continue/strengthen the Chapter and TSPS's role in surveyor education/training.
The last goal I have is to involve myself promoting the Trig*Star program in Central Texas. I will acquire the Speaker's Kit and move forward in presenting the program in as many high schools as I can muster. I would appreciate any help that you would be able to commit to making this program a success.
I look forward to an exciting term and hope you will join me in my enthusiasm by participating as much as you can toward the growth of the Chapter. Please feel free to talk to me or email me with any ideas, suggestions, or concerns you may have at david.mcdow@glo.state.tx.us.
